FAQ & troubleshooting

1. Create a test account on the front page. Use the account name to log in, not your email address.
2. Download the launcher from step 2 on the front page. It gets your client ready for the test realm.
3. Start the game from the launcher and log in.

Playing without the launcher? Set the realmlist by hand, see the next question.

1. Close the game.
2. Open Data\enUS\realmlist.wtf (or Data\enGB\realmlist.wtf) in your game folder with Notepad.
3. Replace everything in it with this single line and save:

If the game still goes to the wrong server, delete the Cache folder in your game folder and check that a Config.wtf in WTF does not set a different realmlist.

Wrath of the Lich King 3.3.5a (build 12340). The launcher adds the Conquest of AzerothCore files on top of it. Other versions cannot log in.

The launcher is new and is not signed with an expensive code-signing certificate, so SmartScreen does not know it yet. That is a warning about the file being unknown, not about a virus.

1. Click More info.
2. Check that the file is the one you downloaded from this site, then click Run anyway.

Only do this for files you got from this site or the official Discord.

Game launchers that patch files are a common false positive.

1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history.
2. Find the launcher, check that it came from this site, and choose Actions → Restore (or Allow on device).
3. If it keeps happening, add your game folder under Manage settings → Exclusions instead of turning protection off.

Please tell us in Discord when this happens, so we can report the false positive to Microsoft.

• Extract the zip first (right-click → Extract All…). Programs started from inside a zip cannot find their files.
• If Windows still blocks it: right-click the zip → Properties → tick Unblock → OK, then extract it again.
• Do not put the game in C:\Program Files. A folder such as C:\Games\ avoids permission problems.

• Log in with your account name, not your email address.
• Check that Caps Lock is off and that you are on the right realmlist (see above).
• Forgot the password? Use Forgot password? on the My Account login.

• Look at the server status at the top of this page. If the realm is offline or restarting, wait a few minutes.
• Check the realmlist: it must be exactly the line shown above.
• Allow Wow.exe through your firewall. Some networks (school, work, hotel) block game ports.

You turned on two-factor authentication in My Account. Type the 6-digit code from your authenticator app into the extra field on the login screen.

Lost your phone? Log in to My Account with one of your recovery codes and turn 2FA off, or ask a GM in Discord.

• Run the launcher again so your client files match the realm.
• Delete the Cache folder in your game folder.
• Turn off addons for a moment (AddOns button on the character screen) to rule them out.

The realm still thinks you are online, usually after a crash. Wait two or three minutes and try again. Still stuck? Ask a GM in Discord.

The account is banned. Log in to My Account to see the reason and when it ends, and ask in Discord if you think it is a mistake.

Use Bug reports in My Account, or open an issue on the bug tracker. Say what you did, what you expected and what happened instead. Spell or quest names and screenshots help a lot.

Reports the team confirms or fixes count towards the Bug Hunter badge in the Armory.

Each class page lists the open issues for that class, and the changelog says what was fixed. The bug tracker has the full list.

A realm for finding problems before they reach everyone. Expect bugs, restarts and changes. Restarts are announced in the banner at the top of the site and on Discord.
